Build your Avero site

Avero Sites is the hosted website builder: a drag-and-drop page builder that publishes your winery's marketing site on your own domain, with your live wines, events, experiences, and reservations dropped in as blocks. Staff run it from /admin/sites (Sites), and each site gets its own full-screen dashboard at /admin/sites/:siteId.

Avero Sites is not the storefront

Avero Sites is the marketing website — your home page, story, visit-us, and landing pages. The shoppable catalog and checkout are the separate online storefront at /shop, which works without this add-on. Avero Sites and the storefront share the same catalog, theme, and domains, but they are different surfaces.

Who can use it

  • Everything in the Sites dashboard — building pages, editing design, connecting domains, and settings — needs the storefront.manage permission (Admins).
  • Avero Sites is a paid add-on, gated by the Hosted Site entitlement (hosted_site). Without it, /admin/sites shows an upgrade prompt instead of your sites (see below).

Turning it on — the Hosted Site add-on

If your account doesn't have the add-on yet, /admin/sites shows a locked card titled "Add a hosted website":

Avero Sites lets you build and host your brand's websites on Avero — a page builder with your live wines, events, and reservations, on your own domains. Upgrade to enable it, or talk to our team.

The card has two buttons: View plans (opens /admin/billing) and Contact sales (emails sales@averoguest.com). Avero Sites is an add-on you switch on for your account — once it's enabled, the same /admin/sites route opens the full builder.

Create a site

/admin/sites (Sites) is headed "Your Avero-hosted websites — one per brand, on your own domains." Each site is one website; a multi-brand winery keeps one site per brand (a site with no brand shows a Family hub badge). Every card shows the site's status (draft / published / archived) and whether it's on the Avero Sites or Legacy site renderer.

The Sites list — your Avero-hosted websites, one per brand.

The Sites list — your Avero-hosted websites, one per brand, on your own domains.

  1. Tap New site (top right), or Create your first site on the empty state.
  2. Give it a Site name (e.g. William Chris Vineyards) and tap Create site. Avero confirms "Site created".
  3. As the dialog explains: "It starts on the legacy renderer — switch it to Avero Sites from the site's settings when you're ready." See Site settings & publishing for the switch.

The dashboard tour

A single site opens full-screen at /admin/sites/:siteId — a branded left rail plus a per-screen toolbar. The rail's Manage section has seven screens:

The site dashboard — the Overview home with the Manage rail.

The site dashboard — the branded rail, the Live/Draft chip, and Overview.

ScreenWhat it's for
OverviewSite health + traffic analytics — see Site analytics.
Pages & SEOThe page list, templates, publish history, and search defaults.
Design & ThemeTheme tokens, header/footer chrome, and the Brand Kit cascade.
DomainsBind a company domain to this site and verify its DNS.
MediaA launcher into your shared Media Library.
StoreWeb collections — curate catalog products for this site.
SettingsSite name, publish mode, the renderer switch, age gate, and preview link.

The toolbar shows the site's primary domain and a Live or Draft chip. Visit site opens the live site in a new tab; Edit site jumps straight into the block editor on the home page. At the foot of the rail, a back tile returns you to all sites.

The Media screen is a launcher, not a separate library — "Images and files for your site live in your shared Media Library. Upload, browse, and organize them there, then pick them from any block in the editor." Open Media Library opens /admin/media.

The block editor

Every page is built in the block editor at /admin/sites/:siteId/pages/:pageId — a full-screen workspace: a tool rail (Blocks, Outline, Page, Templates, Branding), the block palette, a live canvas, and an inspector for the selected block's fields.

The block editor — the block palette, live canvas, and inspector.

The block editor — drag blocks onto the canvas, edit them in the inspector, autosaved as you go.

  • Drag a block from the palette onto the canvas, then edit its fields in the right-hand inspector. Select a section to reorder, duplicate, delete, or Save as template.
  • Autosave — edits save as a draft automatically; the top bar reads "Saving…" while it works and "All changes saved" when it's done.
  • Undo / Redo and a device preview (desktop / tablet / mobile) sit in the top bar.
  • Preview opens the live published site in a new tab (needs a connected domain). Share draft copies a no-login link to the current unpublished draft (covered below).
  • Publish takes the current page live and records a version snapshot — Avero confirms "Page published".
Legacy blocks lock the editor

If a page contains a block the new editor doesn't cover, the top bar shows "Save disabled — unsupported blocks" and the page stays view/preview only. This only affects pages carried over from the classic editor.

The block catalog

The Blocks palette holds 30 blocks in four groups. These are the exact block names:

  • Layout — Hero, Section, Columns, Columns (nested), Divider, Banner.
  • Content — Heading, Rich text, Image, Gallery, Image + Text, CTA band, Newsletter, Contact form, Quote, Testimonials, Team, Stats, Feature grid, FAQ, Logo strip, Video, Map, Button.
  • Commerce — Featured wines, Event list, Experiences, Join Wine Club, Reserve CTA.
  • Advanced — Custom HTML.

A few worth knowing:

  • Commerce blocks pull live data. Featured wines, Event list, and Experiences store a query (which collection, how many) — never a frozen copy — so they always render your current catalog, events, and experiences. Join Wine Club and Reserve CTA wire buttons straight into the join and reservation flows.
  • Links never break. Button and CTA fields use a page picker, not a free-text box — you pick a page on this site or a standard destination (Shop — all wines, Events & reservations, Wine Club).
  • Media blocks (Hero, Image, Gallery, Video, Team, Logo strip) browse the same Media Library and accept an uploaded image, an MP4 (under 3 minutes / 100 MB), or a YouTube/Vimeo link.
  • Custom HTML (Advanced) runs an embed in an isolated sandbox — scripts are off by default and, even when enabled, "run isolated — no access to your site."

Building pages

The Pages & SEO screen manages every page on the site.

Pages & SEO — the page list with drag-to-reorder, SEO flags, and templates.

Pages & SEO — the page list, the "Add a page" templates, publish history, and sitemap.

  • Add a page. New page creates a blank page — "Add a page to this site. You can design it next." The Add a page card also offers four starting points: Blank page, Events, Contact, and Landing.
  • Reorder. Drag a row by its handle — "Drag to reorder · a row opens the editor · the SEO column flags pages needing meta."
  • Set the home page. Open a row's menu and choose Set as home; Avero confirms "Home page updated". The home page carries a home icon and serves at the bare domain.
  • Delete. A non-home page's menu has Delete. It asks to confirm — "This permanently removes the page and its publish history. Visitors will get a 404 for its URL. This can't be undone." You can't delete the home page or the last remaining page; make another page home first.

Each row shows the page's status, Views 30d, when it was updated, and an SEO chip (Good / No meta / Draft). Search-engine defaults for the whole site are set in the Search defaults card on the same screen — see Site analytics for how the Overview flags pages missing SEO.

Publish vs draft

A page has its own lifecycle, separate from the site's:

  • Editing autosaves a draft — nothing is public until you publish.
  • Publish (in the editor's top bar) takes the current page live and writes a snapshot to its history.
  • The whole site also has a publish mode (draft / published / archived) in Settings, and a renderer switch that decides whether visitors see your built pages or the legacy site — both covered in Site settings & publishing.

Share a draft before you publish

To get sign-off without going live, use Share draft in the editor's top bar. It copies a tokenized, no-login link — "Anyone with the link sees the current unpublished draft — no login. Reset the link to revoke access." The link opens at /_preview?token=… and works from anywhere, even before a domain is connected. Reset link (or Rotate in Settings) issues a new one and kills the old: "New link issued — the old link is now dead."

What a draft preview shows

A draft preview renders the page body only — not the site header/footer/theme — and the live-data commerce blocks (featured wines, events, experiences, club) fill in only on the live site. It's for reviewing content, not final polish.

Version history & rollback

Every publish saves an append-only snapshot. In the editor's Page panel, Publish history lists versions newest-first, with the live one marked Live and the block count per version. Restore on any older version repoints the public page to it — "The version from [date] becomes the live, publicly-served page. Your current working draft is kept, so you can roll forward again." Avero confirms "Version restored". Rollback never touches your working draft, so it's always safe to try.

Site collections (Store)

The Store screen holds Web collections"Curate products for this site — feature, reorder, and pick a hero. These reference your catalogue; prices and stock always stay live." Use them to hand-pick which wines a Featured wines block shows.

  • New collection names it (the handle is generated from the name); you add products next.
  • Inside a collection, Add products pulls from your catalogue, the arrows reorder, and the star sets a hero. Everything references the catalogue live — deleting a collection never touches your products.
  • A collection must be Published to be referenceable — "Visible for blocks to reference."

Products themselves are created and priced in the Product Catalogue, never here.

Troubleshooting

  • "Add a hosted website" instead of my sites — the Hosted Site add-on isn't enabled. View plans or Contact sales to switch it on.
  • "Save disabled — unsupported blocks" — the page has a block the new editor doesn't cover (a classic-editor carryover); it stays preview-only.
  • A Featured wines block is empty — its collection has no published products, or the block points at a collection you haven't published in Store.
  • My draft link stopped working — someone hit Reset link / Rotate; the old token is revoked. Share the current link from Share draft.
  • I can't delete a page — it's the home page or the only page. Set another page as home first.
