Search from the header

The search box at the top of every Avero page finds records as well as pages. Type a name, an email, a phone number, an order number or a SKU and results appear as you type, grouped by kind. Choosing a result opens that record's own page, and See all results opens the full results page at /search.

The box reads "Search guests, orders, products…". It is shown on tablet and desktop widths and is hidden on narrow phone screens. The full results page still works there.

Who can use it

Everyone signed in has the search box. What it returns depends on your role: a group only appears if you are allowed to open the records in it, so search never offers a result you would be refused on.

Pages and Reports follow the same rule: you are only shown pages and reports your role can open.

Search for something

  1. Click the search box, or press the forward slash key from anywhere that is not a text field.
  2. Start typing. One character matches Pages and Reports only, and the box says "Keep typing to search records." From two characters on, records are searched too.
  3. Results appear in groups, in this order: Pages, Customers, Club members, Orders, Products, Reservations, Gift cards, Reports. Each group shows up to four results, with the matching text in bold.
  4. Click a result, or move to it with the arrow keys and press Enter.
  5. For more, choose See all results for your search at the bottom of the list.

Clicking the empty box shows Recent searches, your last five. They are kept in the browser you are using, for your sign-in only. Choosing one runs that search again.

What it finds

GroupMatches onOpens
PagesThe page's name and related words, including every Settings row. That page.
CustomersAny part of the name, the start of the email, or the full phone number. The customer's profile.
Club membersThe same, for people with a current membership. The member's customer profile.
OrdersThe start of the order number, or the customer on the order. The order page.
ProductsAny part of the product name, or the start of the SKU.The product in the catalogue.
ReservationsThe start of the confirmation code, or the guest on the reservation. The reservation.
Gift cardsThe card holder, or the card's complete code. The gift card's page.
ReportsThe report's name and related words. That report.

A few rules are worth knowing:

  • Email — a complete email address is matched exactly. While you are still typing, the start of the address is matched.
  • Phone — type the whole number, at least seven digits. Spaces, brackets and dashes are fine. Part of a number does not find a customer.
  • Order numbers, SKUs and confirmation codes — matched from the start. Typing the last few characters finds nothing.
  • Gift card codes — only the complete code, of eight characters or more, is matched, and results show the last four characters only. This stops a code being found by guessing.
  • Club members — past members whose membership has ended are found under Customers, not Club members.

Each result carries a second line to help you pick the right one, for example the customer's email and phone, an order's customer, date, total and status, or a product's SKU and price.

The full results page

See all results opens /search, titled Results for your search, with a count of how many were found across how many types.

  • The search box on the page lets you change the search without going back.
  • Filter by type narrows the list to one group. Each option shows its count, starting with All.
  • Each group shows up to 25 records. When a group is full it says "Showing the first 25 — refine the search to narrow it."
  • The page has its own address, so the browser's back button returns you to where you started, and you can share the link with a colleague. They will see only what their own role allows.

Keyboard

KeyWhat it does
Forward slashMoves to the search box, unless you are typing in a field.
Down / Up arrowMoves through the results. The list wraps at each end.
EnterOpens the highlighted result. The first result is highlighted for you.
EscapeClears what you typed. Press it again to leave the box.

On the Settings page the forward slash key moves to that page's own search instead.

Troubleshooting

  • "Nothing matches … Try a last name, an email, an order number or a SKU." — check the spelling, or try a different detail. For a phone number, type all of it.
  • "Keep typing to search records." — you have typed one character. Type a second.
  • A group is missing — your role cannot open those records. Gift cards, for example, appear for Managers and Admins only. Ask an Admin if you need access. See Invite your team.
  • A customer does not appear under Club members — their membership has ended, or they never joined. Look under Customers.
  • Recent searches are empty on another computer — they are stored per browser and do not follow you between devices.
