Locations
A location is a place you sell, ship from, or keep stock: a tasting room, a
warehouse, an event space, or an office. Locations at
/admin/locations (Settings → Your business → Locations) lists them
all — "Every place you sell, ship from or keep stock, and what each still
needs." Each location opens as its own page, and a new one is added through
a four-step page at /admin/locations/new.
Who can use it
- View —
locations.read: Manager, Concierge, and Admin. - Add a location —
locations.create: Manager and Admin. Without it the Add location button is hidden. - Change a location —
locations.update: Manager and Admin. Everyone else sees View only next to the location's status, and the fields are disabled.
Read the Locations list
Two tabs, Active and Archived, each with a count. Every row shows:
| Column | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Location | Name (opens the location), address, and kind of place. Turned off appears when the location is switched off. |
| What it does | For example Sells in person or Fulfils online orders. Not set if nothing is ticked. |
| Today | Today's opening hours in the location's own time zone, or Closed today. |
| Devices | How many printers are there, or None. |
| Needs | Ready, or a count such as 2 to fix with the reasons listed underneath. Archived locations show Archived. |
The Needs column uses the same checks as the location's own page, so the two always agree.
Add a location
Choose Add location. The page is titled Add a location and has four steps. Next stays disabled until the current step is complete, and Cancel returns to the list without adding anything.
- Where it is — "Where is it?" Enter Name, Phone (optional), Street address (start typing and pick a suggestion to fill the rest), Suite or unit, City, County, State, ZIP code, and Time zone. The name must be different from your other locations. Sales tax rate (%) is optional here — see the note below.
- What it does — "What happens here?" Tick everything that applies: Sells in person, Fulfils online orders, Fulfils club releases, Receives stock, Wholesale. Tick at least one. Then pick the Kind of place: Tasting room, Warehouse, Event space, or Office only.
- Hours — "When is it open?" Each day starts Open from 11:00 to 18:00. Switch a day to Closed or change its times. "Leave it closed every day if guests never visit."
- Review — shows the address, kind, what it does and the days it opens, then Still to do after adding: the things the new location will still need, such as a tax rate or seating areas.
Choose Add location. Avero opens the new location's page.
Type the rate as a percentage, for example 8.25. If the location's state has no sales tax, type 0 — leaving the field blank is not the same answer. With TaxJar connected you can leave it blank and the rate is looked up from the address when you add the location. Without a rate, a location that sells in person is refused sales until you set one.
A location that fulfils online orders or club releases starts with shipping on and pickup off. Change that afterwards on its Selling and fulfilment tab, under How orders leave.
Work on a location's page
Choose a location's name to open /admin/locations/:locationId. The
header shows the address and a status: Active, Turned off, or
Archived. Four tabs:
- Overview — Details (name, phone, address, time zone), Brands, Opening hours, Tax, and Location status.
- Selling and fulfilment — What this location does, How orders leave (Ships orders, Customers can pick up here), Pickups, and In person (when open checks are warned about and closed, and when tables are cleared).
- Seating — the location's seating areas and How guests are seated. See Seating areas.
- Devices — Printers here, with links to card readers and Companion iPads. See Printers.
Beside the tabs, What this location needs lists each check as done or outstanding; Fix takes you to the field that clears it. At a glance summarises kind, brands, time zone, phone, where stock counts come from, and what the location does.
Most fields save as you go — the header shows Saved. Three groups wait for an inline Save that says what saving will do, with Undo beside it: the address, the tax rate, and the end-of-day times.
- Address — "Saving a new address looks up the tax rate again when TaxJar is connected, and updates the rate on open checks here if it changes." Afterwards the panel shows Address checked, or a warning that the address could not be confirmed.
- Opening hours — switch days Open or Closed and set times. Copy Monday to every open day saves retyping. Reservations, pickups and the open-checks alert use these hours.
Set the tax rate
The Tax panel on the Overview tab holds the rate "Charged on in-person sales here. Each location has its own rate."
- Type the percentage in Sales tax rate — a number between 0 and 50. Type 0 if nothing is taxed there.
- Read the line that appears: "Saving sets this rate for in-person sales here and updates it on checks that are still open."
- Choose Save, or Undo to put the old rate back.
Under the field, a line says where the current rate came from: Typed in., From TaxJar with the date, "0% on purpose: in-person sales here aren't taxed.", or "No rate yet. Sales here are refused until it has one."
With TaxJar connected, Refresh from TaxJar looks up the combined rate for the location's address. Without it the button reads TaxJar not connected and you type the rate yourself; Connect TaxJar opens Integrations.
Turn off or archive a location
Both are in Location status on the Overview tab.
- Use this location — switch it off and the location "stops fulfilling orders and drops off the floor, but stays in your lists." Turn it back on any time. Its checks keep running so it is ready when it returns.
- Archive location — for a place that has closed for good. Avero asks you to confirm; choose Archive or Keep it.
An archived location is turned off and hidden from lists, the POS, reservations and the web shop. Past sales and reports keep it. To bring it back, open it from the Archived tab and choose Restore location. There is no way to delete a location.

Troubleshooting
- "You can't add locations" — "Adding a location needs the 'Create locations' permission. Ask an admin."
- "You already have a location called …" — names must be unique, including archived locations. Pick another name.
- "Use a 5-digit ZIP, e.g. 78624." — the ZIP code must be five digits, or five plus four.
- "A rate can't be cleared once it's set. Type 0 if nothing is taxed here." — a saved tax rate cannot be blanked; enter 0 instead.
- "Couldn't refresh the rate from TaxJar. Type the rate instead." — TaxJar did not answer. Enter the rate from your sales tax permit.
- "Online orders need shipping or pickup here, or turn off 'Fulfils online orders'." — on Selling and fulfilment, turn on Ships orders or Customers can pick up here.
- "A warehouse can't offer pickup." — turn pickup off, or change the Kind of place.
- "Hours not saved: a day closes before it opens." — fix the day marked Closes before it opens.
- "Address is incomplete" under What this location needs — tax and card readers need the street, city, state and ZIP.
